Snakebyte Ergo Grip S2 (Hardware) – Review
![]()
Comfort can often be the difference between an enjoyable gaming session and one that ends with sore hands and frustration. As games continue to demand longer playtimes and greater precision, accessories that prioritise ergonomics have become just as important to us as the consoles.
Snakebyte was founded in Germany in 1997 and has spent decades establishing itself as a trusted name in consumer electronics, with a strong focus on the gaming accessories we use daily. The Snakebyte Ergo Grip S2 fits neatly into the company’s philosophy.
Rather than reinventing a controller, they have refined it, and whilst I’m well aware grips are not a new concept, Snakebyte’s attention to detail, ergonomic shaping, and comfort make the Snakebyte Ergo Grip S2 a noteworthy addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 playerbase.
Out of the box, the Snakebyte Ergo Grip S2 offers a clean, practical design. Inside the packaging, you’ll find the Ergo Grip S2 unit and a 2-meter USB-A-to-USB-C charging cable. The inclusion of the generously long cable is a welcome touch, allowing the Joy-Con 2 controllers to be charged while attached to the grip, enabling longer gaming sessions. In terms of design, the Ergo Grip S2 maintains a simple design that complements the Nintendo Switch 2 quite well.
It also looks similar to the one that Nintendo made for the console. The grip itself has a matte black finish with subtle texturing along the handles, providing added traction in sweaty gaming moments.
Adding to the overall design are the discreet LED indicators on the front. They turn red whilst charging and a yellowish-green when the Joy Cons are charged. Overall, I loved the product, with it being practical but also sleek and minimalist.
The SnakeByte Ergo Grip S2 is designed to enhance comfort and control during handheld play, rather than just holding two JoyCons at random, and provides a more traditional controller-like grip. The grip securely houses the console’s Joy-Cons while extending outward into contoured handles, allowing players to maintain a more natural hand position. In use, the Ergo Grip S2 effectively reduces hand strain during longer gaming sessions.
The added bulk and shaped grips distribute weight evenly across both your hands. I liked that you could charge your JoyCons whilst playing if you wanted to ensure you didn’t run out of gaming time, or you could use the grip whilst on the move. It would be nice to see some adjustability put into the handgrips, but that is a minor thing.
The Snakebyte Ergo Grip S2 succeeds in doing exactly what it sets out to achieve: improving comfort and control during extended Nintendo Switch 2 gaming sessions. By focusing on ergonomic shaping rather than using unnecessary features.
Snakebyte has delivered a grip that feels natural in your hands, reduces fatigue, and makes playing handheld consoles more enjoyable. Practical touches, such as the included long charging cable and integrated LED indicators, further enhance its usability, allowing you to charge your Joy-Con whilst playing.
