New Nintendo Hardware Leaks Online, Leaving Gamers Baffled
We’re still very much in the Nintendo Switch 2‘s infancy. The hybrid console has been out for just over seven months, and some of its more exciting games are still coming, but we’ve already caught a whiff of new Nintendo hardware.
There seems to be an unannounced Switch 2 model – or something else entirely – with the model code “OSM,” according to an image uncovered by dootsky.re on Bluesky. Requesting OSM through Nintendo’s Account Portal “returns an image of a Switch 2.” A reply from Aaron Dewes shows that the Switch 2 diagram was added to Nintendo’s website between September 9 and September 16, 2025, three months after the Switch 2’s launch.
I think I’ve discovered something interesting, but I have no idea what it implies: On Nintendo’s Account Portal, there’s an unused model code under the name “OSM”. (The Switch 2’s model code is BEE.) The portal has images for each Switch model, and requesting OSM returns an image of a Switch 2.

Mysterious Switch 2 Code Name Found On Nintendo’s Website
I checked with the Wayback machine. It archived these urls with a ?t parameter, which seems to be the JS build time. This reveals that it was added between 1757403917 (9th September 2025) and 1758006697 (16th September 2025). web.archive.org/web/20250916… web.archive.org/web/20250916…

While the returned image seems to suggest OSM is related to the Switch 2, it’s still unknown if that is actually the case. “This is the same as the image used for the EXISTING SWITCH 2,” says dootsky.re, “it is not a unique image, it is the SAME svg.” The Switch 2 uses the model code “BEE,” so this image attached to OSM could conceivably be a placeholder. That hasn’t stopped speculation regarding a new Switch 2 model, though.
One theory posits OSM stands for “Ounce Small Model,” from this Reddit thread by user andree1234. The Switch 2’s development code name was Ounce, suggesting there may be a version of the console with a smaller form factor on the way, akin to the troublesome Switch Lite, which is handheld-only with non-detachable Joy-Cons. One issue with that theory is that OSM does not align with Nintendo’s model codes for Switch family revisions and the Switch 2’s BEE code:

Could It Be A Switch 2 OLED Already?
While the leak is almost completely baffling, we can’t necessarily rule out the possibility of it relating to a Switch 2 OLED model, even if the Ounce Small Model theory seems to have the tiniest bit of standing. Nintendo’s decision to use an LCD screen instead of OLED on the Switch 2 came as a bit of a surprise, given how well the Switch OLED was received. The Switch Lite had its fair share of issues, mostly relating to stick drift on its permanently attached Joy-Cons, so Nintendo could conceivably push out a higher-spec model first this time around.
Regardless of what the OSM model code represents, it feels much too early for Nintendo to announce a new Switch 2 model. It took two-and-a-half years for the Switch Lite to follow the original Switch, and another two years for the OLED to arrive. OSM returning a Nintendo Switch 2 image is quite interesting, though, and something will likely come of it eventually. There’s virtually no evidence of what it will be or when it will happen, though.
