DOGE caucus looks to codify Trump’s order to reduce federal workforce
DOGE caucus members announced legislation to codify President Donald Trump’s executive order to reduce the federal workforce.
- Gleason was revealed on Tuesday to be the administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Amy Gleason, the recently revealed administrator of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, is a Nashville-based health technology executive, her social media accounts show.
The White House confirmed on Tuesday Gleason is the DOGE administrator. Gleason’s LinkedIn profile said Tuesday that she is based in Nashville and has been a senior advisor in the U.S. Digital Service since January.
To formally create DOGE, Trump used a day one executive order to rebrand and convert the Digital Service, part of the executive branch, to DOGE. It is not clear when Gleason assumed her role as the official leader of DOGE nor what her duties are.
From 2021 to 2024, Gleason worked for Nashville-based health technology startup Russell Street Ventures, a private equity firm and business incubator dedicated to improving rural health care, according to her LinkedIn. One of its initiatives is Main Street Health, which partners with rural doctors and pharmacists for advanced digital health care and prescription services.
Russell Street Ventures was founded by Brad Smith, the former director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation in Trump’s first administration. Smith also works for DOGE, according to USA Today.
Gleason attended 1993 the University of Tennessee and previously graduated from Brentwood High School, her LinkedIn states.
The Obama administration in 2015 named Gleason a “Champion of Change” for her work as chief operating officer of CareSync, where she drew on her experiences “to help patients and their families better coordinate care and improve health outcomes.”
An archived White House page detailing the honor states Gleason began her career in nursing before discovering a passion in technology.
After a lengthy career in the healthcare industry, she worked for the U.S. Digital Service from 2018 to 2021 as a digital services expert. Gleason has also run her own consulting company in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida area since 2018, according to her LinkedIn.
From 2014 to 2018, Gleason was the vice president of research for the Cure JM Foundation, an organization focused on finding a treatment for the rare autoimmune disease juvenile myositis.
The organizational hierarchy of DOGE has been unclear, and the White House has said Musk is overseeing DOGE in his capacity as a senior advisor.
Efforts to reach Gleason by phone Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful. CBS News reported that when reached Tuesday morning, Gleason said she was in Mexico and declined to comment further.
